Tomatoes, basil, red wine… hallmarks of that wonderful, comforting Italian food make these burgers equally wonderful and comforting.

Itali-Burgers
Ingredients:
1 pound (454g) ground beef
4 tablespoons basil
4-6 tablespoons sundried tomatoes
2 tablespoons-1/4 cup red wine
1 egg
2-4 tablespoons bread crumbs
Salt and pepper
Chop the basil and sundried tomatoes. Add your red wine (and pour a glass for yourself). Season with salt and pepper. Mix in your egg. Now, slowly add the bread crumbs, mixing away until the mixture loses that sticky-stickiness but still holds well. Form into four patties.
Place the burgers on a hot grill. Grill for 3-4 minutes on the one side, then flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes. Adjust your cooking time depending on how thick your patties are. If you are nervous, you can always use a meat thermometer to check the temperature, ground beef should be cooked to roughly 160 F. But don’t press on the patties with your spatula, you’ll squish all of the good juices out of the burger.
I wasn’t feeling that cheese was missing from these burgers but you could easily top the burgers with a slice of mozzarella, keeping with the Italian theme. But I did top the burgers with a dollop of basil mayo (mayo, salt, pepper, a quick squeeze of lemon and basil).
Yum.
